Does anybody have experience with these two competing and, according the rep you talk to, "Best" systems for Digital x-ray and Practice software?  I have been using Dentrix for about7 years.  It seems to be unable to accurately track our new patients.  Also, we wanted some way of utilizing patients email for contacting them with a Dentrix-generated note, promo, or newsletter. We can't figure out IF the program can do that and also have great difficulty getting a responsive and knowledgeable customer service rep.  I'm planning to add Digital x-ray soon and I know Dexis works well with Dentrix.  My Patterson reps are trying to get me to switch to Eaglesoft and Schick, but I don't know much about them.  Any Pros and Cons from users of these two systems??

We have used Dentirx for the last five years. The program is generally good but there are definite holes. In particular:

1) It is almost useless for ortho. If you submit an ortho claim to Delta, they will pay you 50% up front and the remaining 50% in two payments. In Dentrix, you post the first payment and the remainder shifts to patient balance. Now you get an irritated patient calling you unless you proacticely tell them first that our software is stupid. I have asked them to fixed this for five years and they won't. Eaglesoft lets you keep a claim open after the first payment. This is even more irritating with insurance companies that pay monthly.

2) If you have multiple doctors with different fee schedules (i.e. GP and endodontist fees for D3330) Dentrix doesn't support this. You have to manually edit the fees for all but the default doctor. Much pain and suffering and lost revenue in our practice due to this. Again, Eaglesoft can do this.

I am sure Eaglesoft has its deficiencies but I am pretty irritated with Dentrix for not fixing these very basic issues for so many years.

Had Dexis bridged to Eaglesoft for 6 years. I now have Schick intergrated into Eaglesoft.  Schick works better. Both xray systems work equally well, each has features a different than the other. Support and annual maintainence fees are extremely lower with Schick

I had Dentrix for 5 years. They would never change anything that I suggested. Their stock reply was "That would require a computer program change" . Isn't that what you have computer programmers for. I am pleased with Patterson's products and service. Dr. Williams

I have been a Dentrix user for 17 years...have used SoftDent, Practiceworks, but LOVE Dentrix. Unfortunately, since Schein has taken them over, the tech/customer support has really gone downhill. But not enough for me to switch yet. I would suggest finding out who your area trainer is and develop a relationship with him/her. Dentrix is capable of so much....spend some time on the website as well. There is some training sessions on there as well.

I used Dentrix for over 5 years. Service was not what I needed. I changed to Eaglesoft and everyone seems happier. Response is better from the co. There software with the Schick and my panoramic unit works great. Recommend it over Dentrix any day.

I have been using Dentrix for the past 11 yrs. The difficulty on tracking new patients may be the way the system begins tracking them as a new patient. They become a NP when you create an electronic Family File record for them. Iwould recommend not doing this until the patient physically shows up for their first appt. Their contact data can be stored, when you make the NP appointment, in a box in the upper right quadrant of the appt information screen. This saves them an appt, but does not yet make them a NP. A year late on this reply, but it may help someone else.

Kevin--Its all pertinent. I've used Dentrix for 6 or 7 years and we've had the same experience. I'm considering changing to Eaglesoft if the price is right to do so!

For Eaglesoft Users - any negatives? Support, maintenance cost, integration issues? Are you satisfied. Many Dentrix users are not.

I have been a Dentrix user for 10yrs. This was my second system and I have been with them since. I had FirstData (National Data Corp.) as my first system. I have had times where its been difficult to get answers to problems with the Dentrix system. At times, my questions are answered. The waits, my staff has experienced that too. On a similiar note,I have been lucky to have a computer tech. in the area who is extremely knowledgable about the system itself. This is helpful. Maybe this is something to look into? I have to qualify this answer by saying I don't jump to install the latest version whem it comes out. I think there are "bugs" to work out first. I get feed back from the tech. and other users. I agree, it would be expensive to change and for that reason, I wouldn't. I think all systems have their problems. For this reason and that they are always trying to improve the system, I like Dentrix overall.

This is one of the things I have found out about Dentrix. One, some time you get a knownledgable person on the help line. Secondly, I think their initial training is inadequate. Thirdly, going to the training sessions are expensive! I know this is off on a tangent from the original subject. But, this may be a factor in the selection.

I have used Schick for approx. 5 years and love the system. I started with PracticeWorks, and in 2005 switched to Eaglesoft for various reasons. The Schick software is part of Eaglesoft, so it is seamless. Also, Eaglesoft has the capacity to e-mail the x-rays and pt. info securely and simply. The other thing is that, if you're concerned about your large investment in your current software, Patterson Dental is now offering the Eaglesoft program for free. There are probably some requirements to obtain it, but in my opinion it is well worth it.

As a 10-year user of Dentrix, my problem is that their customer support severely lacks - virtually non-existent - long phone waits, poor technical knowledge. Now owned by Schein - IMO is a company totally non-responsive to its customers. If there was a better option, I would do it in a heartbeat - problem is that with the investment I have in it now, the cost to change is high. Anyone else with similar experience? Suggestions?

It's great to hear some many different views. My office manager spent three hours on the phone this morning with a supervisor at Dentrix. Turns out it does have the capability to utilize email. He basically explained to her a lot of things that they didn't tell us in training and their customer service people couldn't tell her when she called.

We have Dentrix and the former Dentrix product for xrays and all work well. Haven't gone to new Dexis sensors, but they are responsible for the support. Also my wife is a Dentrix trainer and she says tht Dentrix can do all of the things you were looking for as far as patient communications. They have web site capabilities that will enable you to send and recieve email confirmations. Also can send emails to individual patients through your software without the web site. Hope this helps.

I'm starting a new practice and going to go with Eaglesoft for PMS. I decided not to go with Schick. It's not that it's a bad system, but trying to go high tech, you really have to watch your spending. I have decided to go with XDR. It uses E2V sensors. The software was developed by a dentist and has a user interface which is very easy to use and navigate. The quality, from what I have seen,is comparable to any system out there. The other "plus" is that it is considerably less expensive than Schick, especially if you want to add more sensors.
